Lafayette, Louisiana – We are thrilled to announce Mr. Edwin Jules Spangler as the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour Player of the Month for May 2025! A Youngsville native and student at Edgar Martin Middle School, EJ has been making waves in the junior golf scene over the past 2 years on tour.
We caught up with EJ to learn more about his journey on the tour, his golf game, and the experiences that have shaped him into the player he is today. Check out his responses below!
What college do you plan on attending?
LSU
What’s your favorite golf course you’ve played, and why?
TPC Louisiana because of it's fast greens and great atmosphere
Are you committed to a college to play golf? If so, please specify which one.
No
If you could create your dream foursome, who would join you on the course?
It would be me, Steph Curry, Tiger Woods, and Tom Brady
When and how did you first get introduced to golf?
When I moved down to Louisiana in 2017 right next to Les Vieux Chenes golf course, we were so close we couldn't not play golf
What is your favorite memory from playing golf?
Playing at TPC in LJGT and shooting 69
What does your pre-round routine look like? Any unique habits or must-do steps?
I have a pretty short routine with mostly putting and I have to end on a make before heading to the tee
Do you have any tournament-day rituals or lucky items you always carry?
I always get Wendy's for breakfast
What's your go-to club in a challenging situation?
My go to is probably my 7 iron
If you were a golf club, which would you be and why?
I would be a 3-wood because although I am never the best, I'm always consistent and relied on.
If you could play any course in the world, which one would it be?
Hard to choose but it is between Augusta because it is such an exclusive course and St Andrews because I like links golf
What is your go-to snack and/or food/meal to get you "tournament ready"?
Usually I get a maple bacon chicken croissant from Wendy's and on the course: honey mustard pretzels
Who is someone you love to play with or against because you know it will help improve your golf game?
I like to play with/against Nolan Osborne because he really pushes me and my game
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in golf?
Use your hips and do research, don't expect to be perfect
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of golf? Any hobbies or passions?
I love to eat but other than that some of my favorite things are, rock climbing and pole vaulting.
What’s one fun or unexpected fact about you?
I used to be an "assistant" ski instructor at age 4
How has the Louisiana Junior Golf Tour impacted your growth as a golfer and person?
It has given me great competition and shown me the value not only in competing but also interacting/being social with others.
